WHAT ARE THE Z-RATINGS?
Z-Ratings are a proprietary, volleyball-centric rating system meant to give each team a place in the ratings without the bias of polls. The ratings take into account every set (not just match) played by a team and combines it with data from matches from opponents to create their Z-Rating, which is based on a 25-point scale. They were started in 2013 by former Providence High School Assistant Volleyball Coach (and now NCAA Division I Volleyball Referee) Zach McCrite. Since 2017, the Indiana High School Volleyball Coaches Association (IHSVCA) has adopted the Z-Ratings to distribute on a weekly basis in lieu of the traditional weekly coaches polls.
