The 2021 season marks the 50th year of the IHSAA hosting high school volleyball. South Bend St. Joseph won the first state championship in 1972 defeating Ben Davis hosted at Beech Grove High School.
The host site moved to Ben Davis High School from 1973-1988. Market Square Arena became the host site in 1989 and continued until 1998. The state finals were moved to Noblesville High School in 1999 and 2000. Hinkle Fieldhouse became the place to be for exciting volleyball action from the 2001 to 2006 season. Worthen Arena, Ball State University, has hosted the IHSAA State Finals since the 2007 season.
